BETTY! And I have an answer for you, you saucy wench: Does the loaf of bread dream of the field of its birth? Or, "How can you tell the dancer from the dance?" (W.B. Yeats)

Don't know if you'll see this, but if you do, look for a package in the mail, soonest, my darling cousin. I've written a play about Tommy O'Neill -- entirely in verse -- and I'm sending you a manuscript. I've been meaning to write to you about this for years, but my grief was too intense to face it. So I wrote a play, instead. (I don't even know how he DIED!! I just ... couldn't ... face it, you know?) Also, how do I get in touch with Danny & C? Does he have email? Do you? Are they still in London? Too much to say...a letter and package will follow. SO good to hear from you!! Love! MARK!

#23...delicious.

reminds me of 'barefoot in the park' at lincoln. genius.

last sighting - a streetcar headed for the west portal tunnel - '72?

and in between, a passionate make-out session on the grass at mccoppin square. may i say delicious yet again?

cheers - nanda

Nanda: Who ARE you? Do you mean McCoppin PARK?

I think so - the grassy hill down the street from ALHS. Not ringing any bells? Hmmm...Plaza Suite?

You can't be Walter Matthau, because I can't remember making out with Walter Matthau. And you can't be Joanne Stein, because she ignores me now....Hmmmmmm....

Okay, who are you, and what have you done with Joanne?

she must not be finished beadazzling that sweater vest for santorum - you know how fastidious our joanne can be. such focus.

you, on the other hand...

ginko biloba deficiency? neurotransmitter malfunction? good lord, man, you could give a girl a complex...

Nah...just a little selective degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the midbrain region, with minimal loss in the substantia nigra cluster....

It's an ADHD thang. Actually, more like HD-ADHD. "High Definition" attention deficit disorder. That's where I still can't focus on girls' names, but I have a REALLY clear picture of what that "looks" like.

....It's best described like this:

We don't remember the date of the anniversary, but we remember the color of the earrings.

Or the way the breeze moved your hair.

nice. good save. name aside, despite the occasional lack of self esteem, i am nothing close to forgettable.

and so, my dear clear memory, i will offer one more clue before i resort to a quick backhand followed by a live re-enactment...

you were on the m-ocean view coming from state; i was standing on sloat with a group of friends (come to think of it, yes, my hair was being tossed about by the wind...), and you saw me. you jumped up to get off the streetcar, but the doors had closed and the car started to move; you began pounding on the windows from the front of the car all the way to the back, keeping your eyes on me the entire time. it was a desperately sexy moment...funny, i am still known to this same group of friends as "the girl that guys jump off buses after"...

so there you have it, you delicious morsel of 'desire meets opportunity' - another gloriously real HD moment in the ML saga...

and what's in a name, really? mccoppin square, mccoppin park - we certainly weren't there to admire the flora and fauna. and quite honestly, i only remember yours because you had a presence - and because you tried to jump off a bus after me...

Who ARE you? (Can you imagine the ripple effect if I start guessing??)

Mark Langton said...

I'll take the backhand and (especially) the live reenactment, btw. Threaten ME with a good time, willya....)

i am a fencer, an activist, a mountain in the himalayas; i am stoppard's player (only smarter) (and longer lasting); i am eternal bliss...

i'll trade you my version of photo #23 for a place to send it...

Photo No. 23 is from the Herbert Hoover Junior High School 1967Battle of the Bands....so unless you are my bass player, I'm stumped.
